Finding Balance

With everything that is going on in our lives today it is easy to feel like we are being pulled in multiple directions. Instead of feeling calm, grounded, clear headed and motivated we start to feel stressed, anxious and chaotic and our health ultimately deteriorates. I have struggled with this a lot over the past 10 years. I have a tendency to take on too much and that has only become worse since I had my son. We try to fit into so many different roles, wife, mother, daughter, sister, friend, colleague etc, and inevitably leave no time for ourselves! After the birth of my son I was trying so hard to be the perfect wife & mother that I nearly drove myself insane. I felt guilty if I was cleaning instead of spending time with bub but then guilty if the cleaning or dinner wasn’t done because I was spending time with him. Sound familiar??? What I realised through all this is that I needed to stop striving for perfection and aim to find more balance in my life.

Finding balance is not just about balancing the physical things in your life like work, relationships and activities, but is also about finding internal balance for your mind, heart and health. By allowing yourself the time to find internal balance you will often find that the rest just falls into place.

Here are my top 5 tips to achieving balance:

1. Set Goals & Plan

Structure your days/weeks/months so you have a plan to help you work towards achieving your goals.

2. Balance your diet

This one is super important, it’s often the first thing we neglect when we are busy, but without a healthy diet your energy levels and health with quickly decline.

3. Balance your body

I know it can be hard to fit in exercise when you have so many other commitments but make it a priority. You don’t need a fancy gym membership or loads of equipment, try working out from home or going for a walk for 20-30 minutes per day. You will notice huge improvements to your energy levels, as well as your physical and mental health.

4. Balance your mind

Meditation has been a big tool for me in improving my clarity of mind and balancing my level of stress. Try setting aside 10 minutes at the same time each day to mediate, then try to build on this to either include a second meditation or increase the length of time you mediate for.

5. Be kind to yourself

Don’t put pressure on yourself to be perfect, let go of the negative thoughts that are holding you back and remember that you are an amazing, incredible person and that there is no one in the world quite like you.
